Scenario: You are Head of Security for a small university. You are growing concerned over a number of potential physical security vulnerabilities on your site. Read the reports below from your assistant and then make the appropriate recommendations.

 

Question 1 of 4

Your assistant says the networking closet is fairly secure because it is locked with a key, but he suspects that employees are entering it to take breaks without permission. Recommendation: Install a detective control to record which employees access the networking closet.

Question 2 of 4

The report suggests that all offices are open and unlocked. Therefore, a threat actor could easily enter the building and steal documents from the offices. Recommendation: Install a form of preventive access control to control who enters both the building and the offices.

Question 3 of 4

The IT Administration department needs to be open for guests and visitors who might need technical support. However, those visitors need permission. They should not enter without being escorted. Recommendation: Install a deterrent warning near the networking closet door.

Question 4 of 4

Right now, there is no record of any guests or family members who enter the building. Recommendation: Install a form of detective security control on the lobby desk to record non-employees who enter and leave the building.
